What do e-Nabız test results tell us?

e-Nabız, Turkey’s online health records system, displays test screens with a numerical result, unit of measurement and explanation fields. However, these data cannot be interpreted definitively on their own without knowing the person’s age, existing conditions, medicines, nutrition status and the reason for the test.

Many results include the test name, measured value, result unit and reference range. A reference range is a general framework showing values commonly seen in healthy individuals; it does not mean a fixed “normal” limit for every person. For that reason, a “high” or “low” alert on the result does not necessarily mean there is a serious problem.

In addition, a single heading may include different tests such as a complete blood count, biochemistry, hormones, urine or microbiology. Each test must be interpreted differently. That is why it is healthier to assess the overall picture, together with previous results if available, rather than focusing on just one value.

Why is the reference range not enough on its own?

The same test may be reported within different ranges when processed using different laboratory methods or devices. Whether the sample was taken while fasting or not, the time of day, medicines used, recent infections or dehydration can also affect the result.

  • The measurement unit must be read correctly; similar-looking tests may be reported in different units.
  • A small one-time deviation may require a repeat test or clinical evaluation.
  • Comparing with previous results can help show whether a value is temporary or persistent.

For this reason, the health report or test result shown on the screen does not replace a doctor’s examination. Personal interpretation is especially important for people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, those taking regular medication and children.

When should you see a doctor?

If there are marked abnormalities in the test results, if ongoing symptoms accompany the result, or if a doctor has specifically recommended follow-up, medical advice should be sought. If complaints such as fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, severe pain, faintness or a noticeable decline in overall condition are present, evaluation should not be delayed.

What to keep in mind when reviewing results

  • Do not diagnose yourself using general information from the internet.
  • Do not start, stop or change the dose of any medicine without expert advice.
  • When you go to your appointment, note why the test was ordered and any symptoms you have.

In short, test results provide clues; a definitive interpretation is made through clinical examination, medical history and, if necessary, further tests. e-Nabız provides quick access to results, but a doctor’s assessment is the key step for the right decision.
