Transactions halted after security flaw
NEAR Intents said a security breach on Thursday resulted in losses of about $3.8 million. Following the incident, the platform suspended its services, while deposits and withdrawals on various blockchains were also temporarily disabled. According to the information released, the problem emerged in the platform's cross-chain transaction infrastructure.
The project team said the issue came from a bug in the interaction between the Omni deposit and withdrawal system and the NEAR Intents smart contract. The company added that the vulnerability on the contract side had been patched and that all affected funds would be reimbursed.
Why the platform's scale and structure matter
NEAR Intents offers a system designed to let users make cross-chain swaps without having to choose each bridge, exchange or transaction route one by one. Users simply specify the swap they want to make, while independent market makers known as solvers compete behind the scenes to complete the trade.
According to data on the platform's website, the system has processed more than $30 billion in transaction volume across 35 blockchains. That scale shows the security incident is being watched not only as a technical issue, but also as a matter of market confidence.
- Size of the loss: about $3.8 million
- Affected area: interaction between the Omni deposit/withdrawal system and the smart contract
- Action taken: services were halted and transactions were suspended on some networks
NEAR price slips, but core network was not affected
The market reaction was also reflected in the NEAR token. At the time of publication, the asset was trading at $4.82, down about 6% over the past 24 hours.
However, the company stressed that the vulnerability came from NEAR Intents' cross-chain infrastructure, not from the underlying NEAR Protocol blockchain. That distinction suggested the pressure on the token was tied more to the application layer than to the main network itself.
