How will the tracking system work for aviation fuel?
In two clean-fuel projects in Brazil linked to the state oil company, Cardano's infrastructure will be used to record the source of an emissions-reduction benefit, who owns it, and when it is claimed. The aim is to prevent the same emissions reduction from being reported by multiple companies.
A model that issues a certificate to the passenger
On the aviation side, a passenger will be able to enter the departure and arrival airports into the system and calculate the fuel benefit associated with that trip. They will then receive a document linking their allocated share to the first fuel certificate.
- Which fuel certificate generated the benefit
- Who the benefit was assigned to and when it was claimed
This structure is intended to leave a digital trail showing who owns the environmental benefit created by cleaner jet fuel. In doing so, it aims to reduce the risk of the same reduction being claimed by two separate parties.
What data will be tracked in the diesel chain?
A record spanning production to use
The model designed for diesel will record information from every stage of production, transport and use. These records will then be combined to create a complete history showing the fuel's journey.
The approach is said to help companies report indirect emissions data known as Scope 3 emissions. That is because this type of data often sits with other businesses such as suppliers and customers.
Project scale and Cardano's market angle
Scope and timeline are still unclear
Both projects are currently at the research stage. The diesel model has been outlined as a proposal, and no information was given on the fuel volume it would cover or when it might move to broader use.
As a result, there is still no clarity on the commercial scale of the initiatives. From a financial perspective, while the range of technology applications is expanding, no concrete data was shared to measure live operational size.
Another development in the Cardano ecosystem
Cardano also joined the x402 payment standard this month. The standard aims to allow applications and AI agents to make instant payments for data or computing services, but the first payment-processing software was tested only on Cardano's pre-production network, and commercial use on the live blockchain still needs to be demonstrated.
