National Mourning Alters Wedding Plans

Oslo Mayor Anne Lindboe said she has canceled the wedding ceremony planned for Friday with her fiancé, Pål Sandvid. The decision came after King Harald V, who had reigned for 35 years, died early that morning.

In a statement delivered through her political adviser, Lindboe said no new date has yet been set for the ceremony because of the grief being felt across the country. The couple, who got engaged last June after five years together, decided to postpone their wedding after the king’s death.

Following the death of King Harald V, who died at the national hospital in the capital at age 89 while being treated for a rare blood disorder, his son Haakon VIII became Norway’s new king.
